Balanchine, Ashton & Nureyev opens Friday, February 27, at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall with two Company premieres and live music by the Sarasota Orchestra. The program will include an Ashton premiere of Jazz Calendar, Balanchine's famous Apollo as well as Rudolf Nureyev’s Raymonda Act III. This piece is considered by some to be one of the most elegant, refined and challenging ballets in Russian tradition. With sets by Barry Kay and an opulent score by Alexander Glazunov, Nureyev presented the full Act III at Covent Garden in 1969 with The Royal Ballet Touring Company.
