Marlena Abaza, Head of Middle Division
Marlena Abaza began her teaching career in New York City, specializing in pre-ballet and classical ballet for students of all ages. She taught many years at the prestigious Ballet Academy East, and was the ballet director for both the Greenwich House Music School located in historic Greenwich Village and the Roosevelt Island Cultural center of NYC. Ms. Abaza was also the founder and Artistic Director of Sarasota Dance Theatre from 2007-2011. Her students went on to receive merit and distinction honors through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD).
As a dancer, Marlena trained with Ballet Florida, School of American Ballet, Ballet West and graduated on scholarship from the Hartford Ballet’s Professional Trainee program. She has danced professionally with Dances Patrelle, Omega Dance Company, Connecticut Opera Ballet and was a featured dancer with the USO. Her Broadway credits include the special, A tribute to Angela Lansbury with Nathan Lane, Lauren Bacall and Jennifer Holliday.
Marlena is a fully registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance, having earned her teaching diploma with merit honors. As a member of the International Dance Teacher’s Association, she has taught many students over the years who have gone on to professional careers in the arts, awarded dance scholarships and received top scores in ballet examinations.
