The Sarasota Ballet’s Adult Program is a continuing education program open to anyone 16 and older regardless of experience. Classes run year-round and are organized into six levels, from Basic Ballet for first timers through Pointe for advanced students, so dancers can find the right place whether they are stepping into the studio for the first time or returning after years away.

Designed for students with a little prior experience, this class introduces the fundamentals of ballet at a relaxed pace. Students will focus on basic positions, posture, alignment, musicality, and the joy of movement. This class is perfect for anyone looking to refresh their foundational skills.
For students who have completed Basic Ballet 1 or have some previous experience, this class builds on the fundamentals while introducing more vocabulary and coordination. Barre work expands to include balances and port de bras, while center combinations incorporate movement across the floor, simple turns, gentle jumps, and musical interpretation. Basic Ballet 2 is ideal for those still new to ballet but ready to deepen their understanding and confidence.
For students who have some previous experience or are returning to ballet after a break. The class begins at the barre to develop vocabulary and coordination through simple center combinations, while introducing concepts of turning and jumping.
A more challenging class for students who have attended Level 1 or have two to three years of prior ballet experience. Barre work includes balances, turning, and port de bras, while center combinations expand to include directional use of the body and the beginnings of grand allegro (large traveling jumps).
The highest adult ballet level at Sarasota Ballet School. Barre and center combinations are more complex and faster-paced, incorporating a variety of musical accents and rhythms. All center work from tendu through grand allegro is covered. Students must take this class to be eligible for adult pointe work.
Students who can complete Level 3 or have prior experience may take pointe work. Classes focus on barre exercises and combinations on one and two feet. Students should consult with instructors to ensure readiness.
