April 30 - May 1, 2027
PROGRAM SEVEN
Featuring the Choreography of Marius Petipa, Dame Ninette de Valois, and Antony Tudor
The Season concludes with a triple bill of narrative classics that showcase ballet’s unique way of storytelling. It begins with The Kingdom of the Shades from Marius Petipa’s La Bayadère, where a grieving warrior falls into a delirious sleep after his lover dies in his arms. The otherworldly scene that unfolds tells a poetic tale of tragedy and eternal love.
Dame Ninette de Valois’ The Rake’s Progress follows, which sees the reckless journey of a wayward heir as he falls from grace to chaos and ruin, reflecting the Dame’s intentional satire of 18th century English society. The one virtuous heroine shines as a symbol of integrity amid the madness and is naturally the only dancer on pointe.
The chaos continues with Antony Tudor’s Gala Performance. Three fiercely competitive ballerinas each flaunt their style and ego as they vie to outshine the other, leaving audiences in awe of both their antics and technique.
