WILl Tuckett
Will Tuckett is an award-winning choreographer, director, and former dancer whose career spans ballet, theatre, opera, and film. Trained at The Royal Ballet School, he danced with The Royal Ballet from 1990–2005 and as Principal Guest Artist until 2016. He has created works for all the major UK dance companies as well as companies across Europe, North America, and Asia.
In 2006, Tuckett became the first ROH2 Creative Associate at The Royal Opera House, developing innovative works for new and family audiences that have been performed in London, on tour, and internationally. His productions have also been filmed for broadcast, including Pinocchio (BBC), The Soldier’s Tale, Pizarro, Lady M. (all for WowWow TV, Japan), and Elizabeth (Sky Arts).
Awards include the Cosmopolitan Dance Award, The Ursula Moreton Award for Choreography (twice), the Jerwood Foundation Award for Choreography, and the Varna International Competition Award for Best Choreography. His production of The Wind in the Willows transferred into the West End in 2013 and won the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. He was the Artistic Associate of The Royal Opera House 2007-2011 and was the Clore Dance Fellow 2008-2010.
He also directs and choreographs for theater, opera, musical theater, and film, including work for The Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Globe, Almeida Theatre, Opera North, Garsington Opera, Welsh National Opera, Iford Opera, Sage Gateshead, the Whitechapel Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Tanks, The National Gallery, the BBC, Channel 4, Sky Arts, Working Title Films, Netflix and 87North. In 2006 he devised the television series Ballet Hoo: Ballet Changed My Life for the UK’s Channel 4.
Recent highlights include Macbeth for The National Ballet of Japan, Love Life for Opera North (nominated for an International Opera Award) and Enoch Arden for the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
