Pre-Professional Training Program
The Margaret Barbieri Conservatory is a full-time, pre-professional program designed to prepare 11 - 18 year old students for a performing career in classical ballet. Upon graduation students have the opportunity to audition for The Sarasota Ballet.
The Conservatory is directed by Margaret Barbieri, a world-renowned Prima Ballerina with The Royal Ballet, and Assistant Director of The Sarasota Ballet.
With Conservatory Principal Christopher Hird, The Margaret Barbieri Conservatory has an exceptional instructional staff committed to excellence by providing the highest quality dance education. The faculty includes ballet masters and professional dancers from The Company, plus full-time teaching artists with years of experience in performance and education.
Our students receive rigorous, detailed and intensive training in small class sizes – allowing for individual attention and correction. Additionally they have opportunities to take master classes taught by international teachers and choreographers who come to Sarasota to set works on The Sarasota Ballet. Students in the upper levels may also be considered for covering Company Corps de Ballet repertoire.
Our philosophy of training is to educate and train young dancers to become not only technically strong and versatile, but also have a true sense of clean, classical artistry, musicality and style. We believe that this will develop the dancer in the best way possible allowing them to adapt to the many different choreographic styles of today, young adults who can present themselves with confidence and strong sense of self. The Conservatory is dedicated to achieving the highest possible standards of excellence in pre-professional training, while having the greatest respect for the student as a person and as an artist.
The Sarasota Ballet is pleased to announce the launch of its Trainee Program. As the highest level of the Margaret Barbieri Conservatory, the program will offer talented students a well-rounded curruciulum deisgned to prepare them for their next steps in their dance career. Trainees will have the opportunity to work alongside The Sarasota Ballet’s Studio Company and may be asked to attend Company rehearsals. The Trainee Program runs all-day, and will provide performing opportunities as well as career advice and preparation. This new program will begin in August 2018.
