Program 2 - Expressions
Highlighting the contributions of two great leaders of The Royal Ballet, Program 2 brings together three powerful ballets, including two Company Premieres. MacMillan’s Danses Concertantes serves as a tribute to the choreographer following the 30th anniversary of his passing. Next, Ashton’s potent Dante Sonata created during the early stages of the Second World War as a reflection on the futility of conflict. Closing with a complete thematic inversion, Ashton’s Rhapsody dazzles with exquisite detail and virtuoso technique.
The Sarasota Orchestra will accompany this performance, conducted by Principal Guest Conductor of The Royal Ballet Barry Wordsworth, and with Guest Pianists Cameron Grant and Vedrana Subotic.
